In February there was a residential drama project held in Birmingham, for a mixed group of hearing, deaf and partially hearing teenagers. This week long project provided many opportunities for exploring theatrical techniques, with the added dimension of communicating across the deaf- hearing 'barrier', which didn't turn out to be such a great barrier after all!

Here are comments from some of the participants and facilitators:

What did you enjoy most?

• 'Learning Sign Language'
• 'Laughing and having fun'
• 'Learning to juggle'
• 'Seeing my mum and my little sister when they came to watch the performance'
• 'Being a director, I'd never done that before'
• 'Being the pop star in the audition improvisation'
• 'Living with all these people I'd never met before'
• 'The performance was great'
• 'Helping out with the drama and leading the warm-ups'

By the end of the week, lots of new communication techniques and skills had been learned, and many people were very tired, but happy!
