The Leaveners is encouraging young people to become involved in Quaker Music Making projects.
Katy Ellerton was at the first of a series of new projects for Young Instrumentalists:
In October 2001 a group of young instrumentalists from around the country gathered in Leicester FMH for a residential weekend. We were of varying ages and abilities but made friends easily and enjoyed playing games as well as playing a variety of music.
As well as the classical music under Jo Smith, Penny Everett also did some folk music workshops where we tried our hand at improvisation, which was new to most of us! As well as different arrangements of the traditional tunes we also experimented with swapping instruments as some of us were willing to try new ones!
We practised these pieces over the weekend and performed them to Leicester Meeting on Sunday.
